About

Part internet meme parlor game and part emoji tarot card reading, MeMeMeMe is an audience participatory piece and an experiment in semiotics via meme and emoji analysis and transformation. Audience members choose from a collection of popular images and symbols that are interpreted by the audience as well as the performers.

Audience participation is optional!

Musicians Melinda Faylor (piano, electronics) and Charlotte Munn-Wood (violin) perform and read.

Melinda Faylor

Melinda Faylor is a Filipina American pianist/composer with a background in classical piano and interdisciplinary work. Her current projects include her generative four part meme parlor game MeMeMeMe, an upcoming solo electroacoustic album titled Piano Lounge, and continued collaboration with interdisciplinary artist and pianist Sugar Vendil on the theater piece Islander. Her interest in the aleatoric practices of John Cage led her to co-create several scores for music and dance with Loren Groenendaal and the Vervet Dance Company of Philadelphia, PA. These works often made use of the I-Ching and included elements of audience participation. Ms Faylor has performed solo and chamber music throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. A graduate of Oberlin College and the Manhattan School of Music, Ms Faylor was the Artistic Director of the Areté Venue and Gallery in Greenpoint, Brooklyn from 2017-2020.

Charlotte Munn-Wood

An outspoken proponent of experimental sounds and expression, violinist Charlotte Munn-Wood is an improviser, chamber musician, educator, and commissioner in New York City and beyond. She is a co-founder of Du.0, a two-violin ensemble dedicated to weird sounds both composed and improvised, and a founding member of the Intimate Artistry String Quartet. Upcoming projects include a commissioned graphic score by pianist Tristan McKay and the production and performance of Excoriation, a multi-movement work for solo violin, electronics, and fiber art installation. Munn-Wood is a graduate of the Contemporary Performance Program at the Manhattan School of Music and, increasingly, a self-taught tapestry weaver.
