Fake Church

Fake Church is an improvised religious service of an improvised religion. You tell us what we're the Fake Church of, and we begin our regular weekly religious service – making up that religion along the way.

Hymns, scripture, guest speakers, sermon, sacrament, Kids Program, and more –all improvised on the spot by a rotating cast of the city’s best. The verbs of religion, liberated from the usual nouns.

What will we be? The Fake Church of Iron? The Fake Church of Wool? The Fake Church of Bitcoin? of Ostriches? Of Crime?

Geoff Grimwood has been swimming in improvised waters since 2003, starting at ImprovOlympic in his native Chicago and proceeding to perform, study, and teach at The Second City, the Annoyance, the Peoples Improv Theater, UCB, the Magnet, Maui Improv, and cruise ships and festivals far and wide. He’s improvised on stage with Amber Ruffin, Emo Philips, Mo Collins, and the New York Yankees. His training company Good Game Improv has provided donation-based online improv classes since the start of the you-know-what, and his two-person improv show Grimwood & Grimwood, with his teenage son, is due for revival any day now. Geoff was raised Catholic but, y’know, things happen.
